Dusk!

I only recently found out about Dusk!, a Dutch digital cable TV channel solely devoted to providing erotic material to straight women 24/7. I wish I had come across it sooner; it features many of the films I feature in my After Pornified book and is well worth checking out.

Dusk! is the only channel of its kind in the world and has been available since 2009. The channel is now being rolled out into Belgium and is looking to expand into several other European countries.

Dusk! does its own comprehensive research on what sort of porn they should be showing via a panel made up of over 1500 women. Each month every panel member reviews 6 to 9 porn film fragments of a variety of sorts of porn, including both hardcore mainstream and from a female point of view. After looking at a film, the women are asked to fill out a survey, rating and responding to the snippets. Before Dusk! arrives at any final conclusions about a film it is first viewed and rated 100 times. 

The results of the research panels are here and make for interesting reading. Dusk! has looked at whether women like solo masturbation scenes, vintage porn, BDSM, threesomes, Japanese art porn and numerous other topics.

Dusk! has also coined the term "porna:"

Porna, porn for women, is porn that women really enjoy. It’s porn that arouses your excitement. By listening carefully to our 1500 panel members, all women, and doing some surveys ourselves, we already know some things.

Definitely Porna
• An equal balance of attention for the woman and the man
• Both partners obviously enjoying it
• Explicit images
• Attractive, but still ‘real’ people

Not Porna
• Cum shots in the woman’s face
• ‘Doggish look’ into the camera
• Fake groaning and screaming
• Ugly men with ponytails who hold one elbow akimbo during ‘the deed’

The Dusk panel – with more than 1500 female members – has already told us some interesting things on this point. That it’s important that female pleasure is the focus of attention, for instance. And that we want to see real pleasure, instead of faked or acted excitement with phoney moaning and screaming. And also, that we want to see attractive people, filmed in a tasteful and professional way.

But there’s still much more to be discovered by the Dusk panel. We want to know so much more! Every day we’re surprised by the answers submitted by the panel members. And we’d really like to hear your voice as well!
